This year we decided to try a beach vacation close to home. Fenwick Island Delaware is about 3 1/2 hours from our house. We found a resort that is kid friendly and close to the beach.
After our ride in the car the first thing we did was go to the beach. Liam was so happy to see the waves and sand. We built a small sandcastle then went to see our new condo for the week.
We brought some new toys and games with us to keep the kids entertained in our condo.
The resort had kid crafts for us to do and games to borrow. Liam and Ryan made the frog thermometer.
Our first day there we went to visit a lighthouse in Fenwick Island. Fenwick Island is between Bethany Beach and Ocean City, Maryland. It has a nice beach, a light house, some mini golf places, and restaurants.
Liam and Emily inside the lighthouse. Too bad they wouldn't let us climb to the top.
Liam on the state line, one foot in Delaware and one in Maryland.
The following day we went to the Rehoboth boardwalk. After some ice cream we went to a place called Funland. This place had every retired carnival ride I've seen with some games and a ton of people.
The first thing Liam wanted to do was ride the carousel. Emily saw the boats and tried to jump on. Once we got Emily settled in her boat Liam changed his mind and joined her on the boats. Look close and you will see Emily behind Liam in her own boat. I'm sure this ride isn't safe and she could have jumped into the green water at anytime but I laughed so hard to see my little girl riding around in the boat like a big kid.
Next it was time for the fire trucks. We didn't let Emily on this one or any of the others because they were going much faster and barely had seat belts.
Liam doesn't have a toy gun and as far as I know he hasn't played with toy guns but as soon as he jumped in this fighter plane he was shooting away just like all of the other kids. Again I laughed so hard watching my little man act like all of the big kids.
Liam had to ride all of the little rides. There were race cars, motorcycles, helicopters and boats. He would have stayed all night if we didn't need to eat dinner!
We spent most afternoons playing at the pool. Emily mostly liked to play in the water but not get wet.
Liam practiced swimming a lot. In the shallow end he played with the noodles, made some friends and in the deep end swam with mom and dad. Liam has been doing such a good job introducing himself to other kids and asking them to play.
Our resort also had a small splash park next to the pool. Liam and Emily had fun playing with the other kids in this area and it was easy for me to keep up with them.
In addition to the pools, the resort had 2 playgrounds and a free carousel. Liam wanted to ride the carousel every day multiple times. He loved it!
This picture was taken at the Fenwick Island State Park Beach. The beach was so nice and clean. It wasn't crowded and the sand was soft.
Liam playing in the sand. Last year Liam would avoid a sandbox and scream if he had a speck of sand on his foot. This year he was ready to PLAY! He had a lot of fun chasing crabs, playing cars, and listening to the waves.
Emily wasn't a fan of the sand or playing on the beach. She really just wanted to go back to the pool. Her new word for the trip was pool.
We had an excellent trip and will visit again in the future!
